How about paying the website listed price of $1,050 for a four day pass to the 2010 Daytona 500?
Will you be paying in excess of $4,000 for a VIP package for this year’s golf action in Augusta(as listed on Ticketmaster)?
What would you spend to be at the mother of all sports events, the Super Bowl? If you like to sit around the 50 yard line, $10,000 might work. If you’re not particular, the upper deck seats are a more modest $1000 (also from Ticketmaster).
Ticket Insurance
You’ve bought the ticket to attend the event of a lifetime. But then you get sick or are involved in an incapacitating accident. Now, you can’t use your tickets. Then what?
Travel and specialty insurance giant, Mondial Assistance, has developed an insurance product called Event Ticket Protector. If you had purchased this insurance, the full price of your tickets would be reimbursed if you can’t make the event for covered reasons.
The fact that tickets are getting more expensive and are often purchased well in advance of the events creates a higher risk for fans. Hence, the increasing popularity of this insurance.
The company has insured more than $500 million in tickets. And not just for major events like the ones mentioned above. The insurance is available for tickets including Broadway shows and colleges sporting events like the NCAA’s Final Four.
Mondial partners with ticket providers like Ticketmaster, Tickets.com, LiveNation, ISC and others to make the insurance available for event goers.
