Take a Vacation in your Office

officevacationThe reason you’re so successful is because you work hard. You’re not the kind to sit back and just let things slide: you’re going to get out there and get the job done. When other folks are taking vacation days to get away from it all, you’re right here, making sure the finely-tuned engine that is your job gets done.

Still, sometimes you need to get away, even if it’s only for a few minutes. You might not be able to take a vacation from work, but you might be able to take a vacation at work.

Here are some things you can do during the work day to blow off a little steam, recharge and then get back into the fight:

  • Go out for lunch. I don’t mean grab some coworkers and go to Bennigan’s. I mean get away. Turn off your cell, and get into your car. Go for a drive, and take a look at some local scenery. Go to the park for a walk, or even drive down to the beach. Take off your shoes, rub your toes in the sand for even five minutes.
  • Use a scented candle. Now, many places of employment won’t dig you lighting up in your office. The good news is that there are plenty of candle warmer products you can choose from. Consider a relaxation aromatherapy candle to reduce stress.
  • Listen to some music. Put away the speed metal, though, and try something different. A little light jazz might do the trick, or even something silly like Weird Al just to make you smile.
  • Take a trip down memory lane or imagination road. Look at some digital pictures of your old vacations. Download some images of where you’d like to go next. Close your eyes, sit back, and imagine yourself walking the streets of Rome or laying on a beach in South America.
  • Book an imaginary vacation. Take your travel fantasy to the next level. Go to travel websites and map out a vacation, complete with itinerary and travel insurance. Who knows, maybe you’ll even put it to good use next year and actually take the trip.
  • Talk to a coworker about their vacation. Ask where they’re going on vacation this year. Live a little vicariously through those around you. Maybe it’ll inspire you to decide to take a trip (real or imagined) somewhere.
