The Current State of The Airline Industry

Before the 1970′s, the US airline industry was regulated by the government. There was little competition between airlines because the price of a ticket was established uniformly based on the miles flown. In 1979, with deregulation, airlines suddenly faced competition from each other, which led to massive layoffs, bankruptcies, and liquidations. But that was 30 years ago. Here’s the lowdown on the industry right now.
